Two Hundred years ago women dedicated hours to sit for an artist turning their present appearance into a treasured memory. They had chosen a definitive time in their lives to capture their own immortality. Portrait artist, Winifred Whitfield believes that the ladies of today also hunger for and deserve the same type of definitive fine art portrait. Although at one time she was a traditional photographer, now the majority of her wall portrait commissions look like paintings on canvas. Her life work is creating beautiful and very flattering, portraits of women, and this is the reason women seek her services.
Personal Note from Winifred to PPSNYS and New York Photographers!
"Greetings New Yorkers, from the very beautiful Northwest. It was last April when I paid a visit to New York to get a little studio set up. I knew it was time to start the process of going bi-coastal, though it is a very long drive!! I was walking down the street in Manhattan and decided to stop for a glass of champagne. While seated I thought I should check my phone messages. I found a message from Kelvin Ringold, PPSNYS president inviting me to speak at the PPSNYS convention. Now how cool was that! As the months have gone by, I have found PPSNYS to be such an amazing and supportive group of photographers, and I have to include in this statement, my new friends from PPGNY as well. Consequently, this is where my State and local PPA memberships are.
This convention is important. I never studied photography formally. It has been conventions and workshops such as this that have fueled my passion, shown me what GREAT work looks like and helped me to build the wealth of tools I use to express my vision. You now have that opportunity with a diverse and very talented collection of photographers. Your work must be distinctive if you are to thrive. You must own artistry, technique self esteem and marketing capabilities to create your professional mark.
I am very excited because at the PPSNYS convention I get to introduce you to my boutique business Intimate Portraits for Women, born in a small Norwegian town of Poulsbo WA, population 7500. Most of my clients must travel to get to me. This is not boudoir photography. It is elegant personal art for my clients – heirloom wall portraits. I generally use the categories Hollywood Vintage, Alluring, Sophisticated and I even do Pin-up and smiling images as a courtesy! Some images are more or less revealing but the essence of these images transcend the flesh or clothing shown. You are “Seeing the Soul”. Viewers always comment on just how relaxed and serene these ladies appear, how beautifully lit and posed. I will be discussing the process of creating these images and how I get to that calm expression.It all starts at the point of their phone call.
Though this will not be a technical presentation you should leave with a clearer understanding of how I create these heirloom portraits - plus I will leave lots of time for questions.
